چکیده

The melon/cowpea intercropping system can be a specific and efficient cropping pattern in horticultural field. Intercropping systems contribute to the optimization of land use, fostering sustainable agriculture. This study entails first-year comparative assay using cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) melon (Cucumis melo) under organic management with different patterns 30% less fertilization than usual monocrops. We determined soil nutrients, physicochemical properties, enzyme activities microbes by high-throughput sequencing. found that changed bacterial community structure independently pattern. was characterized higher abundance phyla Proteobacteria Bacteroidetes genus Pseudomonas, which are related nutrient cycling, greater amounts other beneficial microorganisms like Bacillus, Streptomyces Sphingomonas. intercropped significantly boosted total nitrogen, available phosphorus carbon levels addition yield. They also enhanced acid phosphatase β-glucosidase activity compared monocrop. Results from this suggest intercropping, starting first year, not only provides stable supply food income due diversified systems, but is for microbial environment.

Sheep-urine-induced changes in soil microbial community structure.

Soil microbial communities play an important role in nutrient cycling and nutrient availability, especially in unimproved soils. In grazed pastures, sheep urine causes local changes in nutrient concentration which may be a source of heterogeneity in microbial community structure. In the present study, we investigated the effects of synthetic urine on soil microbial community structure, using ph...

The ever increasing pile-up of electronic waste in dumping sites, especially in developing countries such as China, Pakistan, India and several African countries, might have caused a significant alteration in the microbial community of the contaminated sites. This change in the microbial population may have significant impact to the soil ecology function. The major pollutants of electronic wast...

Variation in Soil Fertility and Capacity for Supplying Soil Nutrients in a Hedgerow Intercropping System with Different Tree Species in the Upcountry Wet Zone of Sri Lanka

Sloping agricultural land technology (SALT), a form of hedgerow intercropping (HI) system, has been accepted as an appropriate land management practice to overcome some soil related constraints faced by farmers in marginal lands in the wet zone of Sri Lanka. Despite its effectiveness in soil conservation and soil fertility improvement, farmers are reluctant to adopt this practice due to the lac...
